Reflecting on a Year of Learning and Growing in the Department of Physical Therapy

A Message from the Chair

As I reflect on this past year in the department of physical therapy, I believe there is much to be proud of. This past year, our master of science in physical therapy program achieved full compliance in accreditation from Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada, who praised us for our commitment to supporting our learners. The 2022-23 school year also marked the full return of in-person learning for our students, a change welcomed by students and faculty alike.

Across Canada, rehabilitation services are growing in demand. Physical therapists continue to play an essential role in the health care system. Our department continues to adapt and evolve to meet the changing demands of the health care system and realize our vision of advancing the teaching, science and practice of physical therapy as an essential part of individual health and inclusive communities.

We are committed to equipping our future physical therapists with values that extend beyond scientific excellence. Our emphasis on innovative pedagogy, interprofessional collaboration, system impact, advocacy, equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as kindness, ensures our graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful difference in the lives of their patients and communities.

Our faculty members, renowned for their expertise and innovation, received numerous awards and grants recognizing their contributions to the field of physical therapy. Their research will not only inform evidence-based practices in physical therapy, but also strengthen our department’s reputation as a leader in the field.

I am proud of everything our department has accomplished in the past year and am excited to continue to build on our success in the coming years as we expand our program to University of Toronto Scarborough.

Together, our graduates, faculty and community will lead the way toward better practice, more accessible care and equitable health policy.
