Nancy Salbach receives Graduate Faculty Teaching Award

Professor Nancy Salbach has received the 2024-2025 Temerty Faculty of Medicine Graduate Faculty Teaching Award for Sustained Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentorship!

This award recognizes Prof. Salbach’s contributions to graduate education and her dedication to supervising and mentoring graduate students in rehabilitation science programs over the past 18 years.

Prof. Salbach is a leader in the field of stroke rehabilitation, mobility, and knowledge translation. From 2013 to 2018, she held a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) New Investigator Salary Award and an Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation Early Researcher Award. From 2018-2022, she held a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Ontario Mid-Career Investigator Award and currently holds the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Chair at the University of Toronto.

Prof. Salbach has obtained $6.4 million in peer-reviewed funding as a principal or co-principal investigator. She has published 158 highly cited peer-reviewed articles in high quality international journals.

Prof. Salbach is sought after as a speaker, grant reviewer, supervisor and lecturer both nationally and internationally. She has given over 260 presentations.

Prof. Salbach’s excellent research program has attracted highly qualified trainees who consistently obtain fellowships, present at conferences, collaborate with others and publish their research.

Prof. Salbach is a role model for the next generation of clinical and health services researchers, ensuring that her research is high quality, meaningful and transformative for care. She also mentors junior scientists working in Canada, the USA, Germany and Brazil with grant applications, study implementation and publications.

We are most fortunate to have Prof. Salbach as a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy and are grateful for her expertise and commitment to high-quality graduate education.
