Martine Quesnel is a physiotherapist, Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education and Mentorship for the Ontario Internationally Educated Physical Therapy Bridging (OIEPB) Program. She graduated from the BSc PT program at the University of Ottawa in 1998 and completed the MSc PT Advanced Standing program at the University of Toronto in 2010 with a research focus on peer mentorship.
Martine is a clinician with a broad spectrum of clinical experience in various practice settings, both in remote areas and urban centres, and along the continuum of care. She currently works as a casual physiotherapist in the Brain Program at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.
Martine is a passionate educator. She receives yearly recognition awards for her contributions to the education of physical therapy students. She was also awarded the Department of Physical Therapy Exceptional Achievement Award - Education in 2017.
My current research and scholarly interests at the University of Toronto focus on clinical education, mentorship, and professional development in physical therapy. I am committed to exploring clinical education from multiple facets to better understand and enhance the educational experience: from learner and clinical instructor experiences to partnership engagement. I am also interested in investigating key features of a mentorship framework and the role of mentorship for the growth and integration of internationally educated physical therapists, Canadian learners, and registered physical therapists in the Canadian Health Care environment.
My interest in creative professional activity lies in the development of professional innovations to support learning and ongoing professional development. I am interested in online learning and the development of tools to facilitate reflective practice and promote self-directed learning.
Martine leads the clinical education curriculum and Mentorship Program for the OIEPB Program. She coordinates the Comprehensive Course and teaches in multiple facets including the Physiotherapy Foundations, Neurological Fundamental Systems Review, Consolidating Physical Therapy Practice, and the Integrated Practice: Healthcare Systems modules of the OIEPB Program.
Martine has also been the unit academic co-lead for the Unit 4 course of the MScPT Program, with a focus on neurological physical therapy practice.
